Premier League outfit Everton have turned their attentions towards an altogether surprise candidate amid the club’s efforts to lure a new tactician to Goodison Park.
The subject of the hot-seat on the blue half of Merseyside has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines over the course of the last week, on the back of the dismissal of Rafael Benitez.
To this point, the likes of Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney, Vitor Pereira and even Jose Mourinho have been hotly tipped for the post.
On Thursday, though, a fresh name has entered the fray. The tactician in question? Fabio Cannavaro.
As per a report from The Telegraph, Italian icon Cannavaro is not only being taken into consideration to take up the club’s reins on the part of the Everton hierarchy, but has in fact already been interviewed by the powers that be at Goodison.

An uninspired choice?
Whilst a headline name based purely on his legendary playing career, featuring a historic World Cup and Ballon d’Or double back in 2006, the possibility of Cannavaro taking his place on the bench on Merseyside is unlikely to fill the Everton faithful with much confidence.
The 48-year-old has not exactly enjoyed a glittering stint in management, since first trying his hand in the dugout with Al-Ahli a full nine years ago.
In fact, he has never even been afforded a chance to impress on European shores, having spent the entirety of his managerial career in Asia, most recently departing Chinese powerhouse Guangzhou FC back in September of 2021.

Amid such a period of uncertainty at Goodison Park, a tactician boasting at least some experience of English, or at the very least European football should likely be sought out by Farhad Moshiri and the powers-that-be at the club, ahead of a crucial 2nd half of the campaign.
At present, Everton sit in a lowly 16th in the Premier League table, and in genuine danger of being dragged into the relegation dog-fight, owing to just 19 points secured from 19 outings.
